Believe you can be The Victor

You can be…

The Victor

If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not, you don’t
If you like to win but think you can’t,
It’s almost a cinch you won’t.

If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost.
For out in the world we find
Success begins with a fellow’s will
It’s all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are.
You’ve got to think high to rise.
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win the prize.

Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man.
But sooner or later, the man who wins
Is the man who thinks he can.

  5. I’m sitting here, blubbering happy tears of joy in reading this – this was one of the first poems my dad introduced to me and had me memorize (if I remember, my first assignment was the Gettysburg address – this was the second – then I chose what I wanted to do – and when I hit teeny-bopper stage and was ‘slacking off’ choosing short/easy/quick to memorize, he assigned Kentucky Belle and The Face on the Barroom Floor’ – LOL – –

As I read the first few lines, all the wonderful memories of that time, of my Dad, the wisdom contained within these lines – my Dad raised me through the wisdom contained in the poems, songs and great works he had me learn – I never realized at the time what he was doing – but as a parent, I did the same for my sons through music – and stories –

Just like millenia of humans did, before everyone had Google to look it up on ! LOL

Thanks for the wonderful memories evoked by your post! 🙂

  7. Beautiful, and so true. Pity there are far too many days when we don’t believe this, but thankfully they are shortlived!
